По великих лісах завжди побережники палили вугля. І лев дивиться на них і каже: — «Що ви так дуже-то працюєте?» Каже: «Я би-м то відразу розірвав»,— як хлопи забили клин в дуба, і [він] роздявився. Доміркувалися побережники, що би з ним зчинити, який би презент свому панові і втіху оказати, та й кажуть: — «Но, коли ж ти такий розумний, то розірви, ми ти вже показали стежку. Стань ту єднов ногов — ніби де вужче, а ту другов — де ширше, а ту станеш руками і розідреш.
Борзенько побережники вибили клин перший,— то дві лаби затримало. А той зачав кричати. А вони сміються: — «Ну, та бери, розірви». Як він вложив і передні лаби, вони вибили вже клин остатній. Як зачав кричати на цілий ліс та й каже: — «Браття мої, випустіть мене, що хочете?» — «О,— кажуть,— вже ні».
За тоє дістали конов горівки від пана і по три корці пшениці, і дав їм по сто золотих за той презент, що вони так показали. От то каже так пан: — «Не хвалися сильний силою, ані мудрий мудростев, бо,— каже,— на всьо є рада».
