Було це дуже давно. Якось один бідняк став проситися до
багача на службу. — Робітники мені потрібні,
але що ти вмієш робити? — запитав бідняка
вельможа. — Я варити і пекти можу,
копати, молотити, худобу пасти,— відповів бідняк. — А яку ти плату бажаєш за
свою службу у мене за рік? — Та небагато. Будете мене
одівати, годувати та дванадцять рублів на рік давати, - відповів бідняк. Багачу то дуже сподобалось, що бідняку багато
платити не треба, і взяв його до себе на службу. На другий день, лише
почало світати, встали всі слуги
багача,
а потім піднялись і господарі. Дивляться, а нового робітника й не видно. В полудень господар розізлився,
пішов будити нового наймита. Відкрив двері, дивиться, а той сидить голий,
склавши руки, на постелі. — Це ти мені так служиш? – питає вельможа. А наймит відповідає: — Пане, я тебе з самого
ранку чекаю, а ти, очевидно, забув про нашу умову. — Яку умову? — Так ти ж обіцяв, що мене
вбирати і годувати будеш, так ось я жду, коли ти прийдеш мене вбрати і
нагодувати.
